What is the Federal WARN Act?
The Federal WARN Act requires covered employers to provide 60 days’ advanced notice of any plant closing or mass layoff to affected eligible employees. The WARN Act is intended to provide affected employees and their families sufficient advanced notice of the plant closing or mass layoff, so that they can prepare for the job loss, seek new employment, and pursue training opportunities. The permanent closing of stores are plant closings within the meaning of the WARN Act. Employees who work at locations covered by the WARN Act are entitled to receive WARN notices.
If an employer covered by the WARN Act terminates its employees without giving them 60 days’ advanced notice of the plant closing, covered affected employee may be eligible to recover back wages and benefits. The Previant Law Firm represents former employees who were affected by potential violations of the WARN Act, including the employees of Yellow Freight.
